The Senior Development Manager shall be responsible for the execution of a portfolio of projects under their assignment. Responsibilities consist of guiding and completing all activities associated with project development as well as providing oversight to the Business Development and Finance team with prospect review and due diligence for new opportunities in the North American market.
Implement or supervise land acquisition campaigns, including identification of landowners, initiating contact, and negotiating land contracts, including but not limited to, energy leases, purchase and sale contracts, collection and transmission lines easement, access roads and right of way easements.
Maintain existing landowner communications with project update phone calls and letters, newsletters, project update meetings, and presentations.
Supervise the progress and metrics for Land Agent status. Liaise between Land Agent and internal or external counsel on contract requests while maintaining marketable terms.
Coordinate and facilitate communications and negotiations with external stakeholders, including but not limited to contractors, community members, permit agencies, utilities and other stakeholders including oversight of local, state or federal permitting processes.
Supervise (contract, engage, and discontinue, as necessary) consultants - including but not limited to environmental, engineering, aviation, biological consultants on the projects.
Negotiate key project agreements such as Road Use Agreements, Conditional Use Permits and Tax Abatements
Facilitate contracting for pre-construction activities such as preliminary geotechnical engineering, preliminary engineering.
Monitor and submit / present status report(s) to maintain up-to-date summary of project activities including preparation of co-development leadership for upcoming major decisions and mitigations.
Articulate risks associated with projects while maintaining development budget and schedule and anticipating upcoming major decisions.
Facilitate internal approval process, including providing subject matter expertise and major decision recommendations
Participate in regular development partnership meetings
Inform and collaborate with co-development steering committee on a regular basis
Liaise with all internal stakeholders as required to gain sign off and approval at appropriate milestones
Maintain professional working relationships and communication with in-house business development, engineering, wind resource, construction, sales, service, legal and finance.
Collaborate with engineering team and external consultants to evaluate site layouts and constraints, technology options, schedule implications, interconnection applications and studies
Coordinate real estate due diligence, review materials and provide risk assessment for acquisition opportunities.
Provide perspective on market trends and policy research and analysis of energy technologies and markets to quantify market potential and cultivate new development opportunities
A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 9 years of directly related experience; MBA or related Masters' degree preferred.
A minimum of 5 years' experience handling project management energy related projects and supervisory experience preferred.
Has solid knowledge and capabilities in all the aspects of project development, including key project agreements/contracts, power sales, commercial markets, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), permitting, transmission, fuel supply, project financing, contracts, land acquisition, and financial analysis
Has skilled experience in and understanding of the North American power sector, including legal/regulatory aspects, market environment, landscape, stakeholders, counterparties, and other areas that impact growth initiatives.
Has a background in supervising projects through financial close at Notice to Proceed (NTP) and Commercial Operation Date (COD)
Senior level working knowledge of environmental sensitivities, development opportunities, permitting and interconnection processes.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and interface effectively with cross-functional employee groups and external stakeholders
Comfortable multi-tasking and prioritizing complex demands in a forward-thinking work environment
